Widely reported … yet unconfirmed … Jobster may soon be terminating some its employees.
Is this another example of impatient investors meddling with Jason Goldberg’s recipe for success?
Did investors get snowed out of $48 million?
No doubt 2007 will reveal the answers. Good luck Jobster!

Joshua Jaffe, senior writer for The DEAL, writes in the December 18, 2006 - January 15, 2007 issue that ‘The Latest Generation of Internet Startups Fail To Impress’ (article title).

Jaffe postulates that today’s known startups lack the necessary attributes to be true ‘disruptors’, and thus are candidates for failure. Indeed, the chasm between having a great idea and market fruition is deep and wide. Many promising businesses have, for a variety of reasons, failed to bridge the chasm of failure to achieve widespread market adoption and sustainable success.

Yet, can it also be argued that these stops and starts are the catalysts for emerging ‘disruptors’? Startups like SimplyHired, Jobster, Just-Posted.com, etc. are indeed impressive … at least by those that frequent their Web properties and are engaged by their content offerings.

The Case for Relevant Job Search Results Is Validated!

The facts are clear … general search engines and legacy job boards, i.e., Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, HotJobs.com, EmploymentGuide.com, JobALot.com, etc., have devolved into a state of complacency.

The data below from Jupiter Research affirms the need for deeper, more specific, more relevant search results.

Here’s What Users Say About General Search Engines -

I usually refine my search with additional keywords (41.2%)

Results are often not directly relevant to my query (41.2%)

I find there are too many results returned (32.5%)

I often go to more than one search engine to find the answer to my query (32.5%)

Too many results are sponsored links (21.5%)

I often leave a search engine without finding an answer to my query (18.0%)

Improving the search experience is no longer an option - it is essential to attracting and retaining targeted, high-value traffic.
